The do it yourself Plastering DVD

The Plastering DVD will teach you:

Hawk and Trowel Control

Teaches you how to load your trowel with the appropriate amount of plaster in the correct way. This enables you to take all the time you need to position the plaster on the wall, in the correct place and gradually spread out in an even manner. Ensuring you not only have a flat wall but also a cleaner floor!

Backing Coat

The backing coat is crucial in helping you obtain a smooth finish. The skim coat is responsible for smoothness only and is not capable of flattening out any discrepancies easily so get this backing coat right and applying the subsequent skim coat is straightforward.

You will learn:

  • What materials to use
  • When a backing coat is needed
  • Purpose of a backing coat
  • How to prepare your wall and control the suction
  • How to apply backing coat
  • How to obtain a perfectly flat backing coat

Skim Coat

This finish coat should be 2-3 mm thick. There are approximately 6 stages to complete but knowing when to move from one stage to the next is important. If you see no improvement from the previous stage, and you feel you're going round in circles, then the plaster may need to firm up a bit more.

You will learn:

  • How to apply a skim finish and keep it flat
  • The skills needed to obtain a clean slightly polished surface

Testimonial

Paul,

I bought your video and guide in March. I also asked you about plastering ceilings. Your advice and materials were excellent. I have now completed several ceilings, walls etc with perfect results. I have even done some cement plastering in the bathroom (your tip on plasticizer was great). In the US the plastcizer usually comes in the form of various admixes (usually acrylic) and they are mostly sold as for mortar beds for tile installations and Stucco (our term for render). If you have any follow up videos or materials please let me know.

Thanks for all of your help

About the Plastering DVD instructor.

Hi, I just want to say that after watching your DVD I had a go at skimming over my kitchen chimney breast (1930's semi).

I started with the 'easier' sides and must say that the results were fantastic.

The larger front piece was an exercise in trust, but by following your guidance, I have produced a very, very good finish.

My neighbour, who's been in the building trade a long time was shocked by the results!

He did say that is wasn't "Quite a glass finish", but I told him that decorators prefer an egg-shell finish - That told him!

Thanks

Chaz----------
