Render

Hi I have been removing the lining paper from some wall and beneath it is only rendered, but the render is a little uneven, am I able to level it out with plaster or should I render it some more. Also the render is quite smooth should I pva it anyway? Many thanks Barry.

Answer
Hi Barry, If in doubt then apply PVA, this will also help to control the suction. As a rule of thumb - if the unevenness is over 5mm then it can be easiest to apply a backing coat (bonding coat can work well), but if it is only minor then apply finish coat to the worst affected areas, to flatten, immediately before the skimming process.
