Hi the wall over my fireplace keeps cracking. The wall feels hot to touch when the gas fire is on. I have just redecorated, wall was stripped , crack filled, wall lined with thick lining paper then papered over, cracks have appeared again within a couple of days and have split through both the lining and wallpapers. Help not sure what to do next. Thank You.

Does the plaster sound hollow when tapped? It may be that all the old plaster needs to be removed and re-plastered ensuring a good bond with the wall. If the wall gets really hot - a lime plaster may work better.
