cracking on new plaster

by Alan John Gazeley
(Nuneaton)

We have been working on 2 different walls. 1 of the walls shows some patchy cracks while other is are ok with the same mix. what do you think is the problem with the cacking patches?

Answer
The cracking is more than likely due to different suctions - how porous the background is. You may need to control the suction more - with either water or PVA depending upon the background.

As we have been experiencing warm temperatures - a breeze or through draft will also cause plaster to dry out too quickly, however normally this results in a crazing effect as opposed to cracks.
Possibly could be a combination.

Hope that helps
Paul
